change in format

Season 1922-23 brought a change to the Albion programme. The fold out sheet was replaced by a slightly wider (250mm x 155mm) eight page publication, that was now starting to resemble what we regard as a recognisable format for the matchday programme. The price remained at twopence, and the editorial notes, by “Albino” now appeared on two pages. The referee came in for some praise in the notes of the Bristol City programme; “Mr. Butler, who officiated, owing to the enforced absence of Mr. Wilding through fog, was splendid and deserves the heartiest congratulations for the way in which he handled the game”. The game referred to was the FAC replay against Corinthians. In the next round, Albion played West Ham United, the eventual winners. In the notes of the West Ham programme it was noted that “It was against the Hammers that Mr. Webb made his first appearance for Brighton. He figured at outside left and scored a goal”. Also in the West Ham programme notes “The players are wearing black armlets to-day as a mark of respect to the late Lord Kinnair
